I am NLH, a French artist, born in Paris!!!

For 30 years, people have been saying that I am a "Painter of the soul, a Painter in the soul".

From my career in Paris, through Lisbon, to my arrival in Madeira for the first time in 2016, 

my knife-carved art has continued to evolve...

I have come a long way since my first exhibition in 1993, shortly before obtaining my master's degree in Fine Arts...

I have been living in Portugal for about ten years, between Almada and Funchal. 

Thanks to acrylic painting, I express my feelings by addressing the following themes :

the sensations of the human body, the search for oneself, Nature and spirituality, heritage, 

the soul of authentic places, the energies and emotions that I try to convey through the contrasts of light. 

I mix textures and reliefs and I like to paint on different supports, such as canvas, but also wood, driftwood, stone or even clothes.  

I have been exhibiting in Madeira since 2019: 

- ‘Feira de Arte em Socorro’ for 5 years,

- In 2022-23, I took up residence in the artistic creation studio for the participatory project MEM.CO in Funchal.

‘Memories of the sea and community heritage’, a cultural project dedicated to the affirmation,

appreciation and interpretation of the fishing heritage on the island of Madeira.

My cabinet of curiosities, composed of various scenes painted on the life of fishermen,

was exhibited at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre in Funchal, during a collective exhibition;

bringing together various artists, anthropologists and scientists. 

The lush nature of Madeira gives me a dizzying thrill that takes my breath away, where time and space no longer exist...

I have never felt this anywhere else during my travels!!!
